MJR OPUS CLUBHOUSE

MJR Gateway – Clubhouse
Built-up : 21500 sft
Project Status : Ongoing
Location: Sarjapur, Bangalore

The Gateway Club at MJR represents a bold exploration of contemporary clubhouse design, offering comprehensive recreational and social amenities for the residential community.

The design employs a sleek, roof geometry that cantilevers dramatically over the primary volumes, creating sweeping horizontal planes that contrast with vertical stone-clad walls. Smooth concrete surfaces meet textured stone cladding in vertical panels, while extensive glazing establishes transparency between interior programs and landscape context. The facade features a distinctive metal fence screening system with fine vertical slats that generates dynamic shadow patterns throughout the day, adding depth and visual intrigue to the elevation.

Natural materials anchor the design language, timber ceilings with exposed grain patterns warm double-height volumes, while stone cladding in varied textures establishes tactile richness across exterior walls. Polished concrete, natural wood paneling, and floor-to-ceiling glass create a refined material dialogue. Interior surfaces balance raw textural finishes like exposed concrete walls with refined details including integrated lighting coves and custom millwork.

The clubhouse offers comprehensive programming across multiple levels. The central gymnasium serves as the functional core, featuring expansive glazing, minimalist finishes with textured concrete walls, and arched architectural details that frame views to exterior courtyards. Custom storage solutions, cane-detailed timber benches, and sculptural lighting create an environment that blends performance with aesthetic sophistication.

Indoor badminton courts provide dedicated sports facilities with proper flooring and lighting, while the games room accommodates recreational activities including billiards, table tennis, and indoor entertainment. Reading rooms provide intimate zones for contemplation, furnished with soft upholstered seating, brass-accented tables with marble tops, and walls of glass opening to mature landscape.

The banquet hall serves as a versatile event space for community celebrations and private functions, with flexible seating arrangements and direct access to outdoor areas. Retail spaces at ground level provide convenience amenities for residents.

The swimming pool forms the core of the design centrally located between two blocks of the clubhouse, with a circular bridge hovering above the pool.

The bridge performs not only as a transitional space but also as a vantage point for sight contemplation over the body of water. The gym has a unique placement as it is cantilevered over the pool providing a feeling of a floating space over which the sky meets the pool. The monotony of the spaces are broken by arranging the spaces by multiple levels so it is easier to traverse and static a sense of dynamism and curiosity.

The Open Air Theatre (OATS) functions as an amphitheater for community performances, outdoor cinema, and social gatherings, with tiered seating integrated into the landscape design.

Upper-level spaces capitalize on elevated vantage points, with cantilevered balconies and viewing terraces that hover above the pool courtyard and landscape. Extensive planting throughout, mature palms, layered shrubs, and ground covers, establishes the clubhouse within a lush tropical framework.

Timber decking, stone pavers, and lawn areas create textured outdoor rooms that extend interior functions into open air. The architecture and landscape operate as an integrated composition, with built forms framing nature and greenery softening modernist geometry.
